I have personally lived in houses that are haunted many of times but I was young and it wasn't my choice but now because of that I have learned to avoid haunted houses and not with a sixth sense but research and computer smarts. Research can help you with any thing as long as you know where to look, First off when planning on getting a house if its not brand new on the market most the time it has had some kind of history and that can involve spirits but sometimes it can be the land that's haunted. The first thing to look at is the year the house was built and you can also ask for the history on the house and no matter how bad it might have been you have the right to be told. You can also look at the history around the house as well sometimes you can find it online pretty easy if you know where to look but at times it doesn't show anything. It helps to look at the town history too, Most towns have haunted places that are put online if you find a lot of haunted places in that area then its best to look somewhere else especially if you don't like spirits. You might be able to tell if the house is haunted by how you feel, If you have a feeling of being watched, get goose bumps, maybe you'll smell something weird, and another way is while walking into all the rooms pay attention to the way all the rooms feel if you walk into one room and it feels fresh and open then walk into another room and you feel distant kind of a uneasy feeling then that room is most likely holding a spirit. I know that getting a new house especially if your just starting out with your significant other its exciting, a big rush of joy, and a all together great feeling but you have to pay attention to this stuff if you don't want to get your self in a tough cookie with spirits. One more easy give away is if a house has been on the market for a good while, and you look at the history and no one stays in that house long its a wrong turn and a red flag. I hope this helps anyone who is curious to avoiding the wrong house, If you have any questions feel free to ask and follow me!
